What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a movement-first, evidence-based approach designed to restore strength, mobility, and function while helping you recover from injury and prevent future issues. At Reform Health + Wellness in Red Deer, we use physiotherapy to help you move better, build resilience, and return to the activities that matter most—stronger and more confident than before.

Our physiotherapists combine hands-on soft tissue techniques, joint mobilization, therapeutic exercise prescription, and advanced modalities such as instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), kinesiology taping, cupping therapy, gait retraining, postural re-education, and targeted balance & proprioception training. We focus on identifying and correcting the root causes of pain or dysfunction, creating personalized programs that deliver lasting results.

Conditions We Commonly Treat

Our physiotherapists help patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and movement-related concerns, including:

  • Sports injuries, sprains, and strains
  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation (knee, hip, shoulder, and more)
  • Arthritis and chronic pain management
  • Postural issues and repetitive strain injuries
  • Motor vehicle accident recovery
  • Balance problems and fall prevention
  • Pre- and post-natal musculoskeletal care

What to Expect

Your First Visit: Your initial appointment lasts 45–60 minutes. Your physiotherapist will review your health history, discuss your symptoms and goals, and perform a thorough movement and physical assessment.

Treatment often begins on the first visit and may include manual therapy, targeted exercises, education, and other techniques tailored to your needs. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your condition and a personalized treatment plan.

What to wear: Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy movement (athletic wear works well).

Follow-Up Visits: Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes. Your physiotherapist will monitor your progress and adjust your plan as needed. Treatment may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, movement retraining, and modalities to support your recovery.

Because we’re a multi-disciplinary clinic, your physiotherapist can coordinate with our chiropractors and massage therapists when it will benefit your results. We focus on clear communication so you always understand your care and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your initial visit (typically 45–60 minutes) includes a comprehensive assessment: detailed history, movement and strength testing, posture analysis, and any necessary special tests. We’ll discuss your goals and begin developing a personalized treatment plan. Treatment often starts on the first visit when appropriate. We prioritize clear communication, education, and shared decision-making so you understand your condition and recovery path.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows free movement and easy access to the area being treated (e.g., shorts for lower body, tank top or sports bra for shoulder/neck). Athletic wear works perfectly. We have private changing areas available if needed.

Both professions excel at treating musculoskeletal problems but take slightly different approaches. Physiotherapists emphasize movement analysis, exercise prescription, functional rehabilitation, and long-term self-management. Chiropractors often focus more on spinal and joint adjustments as well as manual therapy approaches. At Reform Health + Wellness, our physiotherapists and chiropractors work collaboratively when it benefits the patient, giving you truly integrated care under one roof.

Yes — many patients achieve the best results with a combined approach. For example, you might receive manual therapy and exercise from your physiotherapist, soft tissue work from our massage therapists, and adjustments from our chiropractors. Our team coordinates care to optimize your outcomes and make your recovery as seamless as possible.

No referral is required to book physiotherapy at a private clinic like Reform Health + Wellness. You can self-refer. However, some extended health benefit plans require a physician’s referral for reimbursement — we recommend checking with your insurance provider.

Physiotherapy is not an insured service under the standard Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan for most people. Many Albertans access care through private extended health benefits (workplace plans, Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, etc.). We offer direct billing to most major insurers where available. We also accept MVA claims and private pay. Contact us or your benefits provider to confirm your coverage. We do not accept WCB claims.
