Whether you're seeking care for back pain, neck pain, headaches, a sports injury, or ongoing discomfort, our goal is to make your first visit comfortable, informative, and focused on helping you move and feel better.

Getting Started

We understand that visiting a new healthcare provider can feel intimidating, especially if you've never received chiropractic care, physiotherapy, or massage therapy before.

At Reform Health & Wellness, we take the time to understand your concerns, answer your questions, and develop a treatment plan tailored to your goals.

Our approach focuses on identifying the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms—not simply treating where it hurts.

Before Your Appointment

To help your appointment run smoothly, we recommend:

Completing Any Required Forms

If paperwork is sent before your appointment, completing it ahead of time can save time and allow your provider to review your information before you arrive.

Wearing Comfortable Clothing

Depending on your condition, your provider may assess:

  • posture
  • movement patterns
  • mobility
  • strength
  • functional activities

Comfortable clothing such as athletic wear is often helpful, but not required.

Arriving Early

Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your appointment to:

  • check in
  • complete any remaining paperwork
  • verify insurance information if applicable

What Happens During Your First Appointment?

Step 1: Health History & Discussion

Your provider will begin by learning more about:

  • your symptoms
  • when the problem started
  • previous injuries
  • medical history
  • lifestyle factors
  • work demands
  • activity levels
  • treatment goals

This conversation helps us better understand your situation and determine the most appropriate assessment and treatment approach.

Step 2: Physical Assessment

Your provider will perform a comprehensive assessment that may include:

Movement Assessment

Evaluating how your body moves during everyday activities.

Range of Motion Testing

Assessing flexibility and mobility.

Orthopedic Testing

Specific tests designed to help identify contributing structures and conditions.

Strength Testing

Evaluating muscle function and control.

Neurological Examination (When Appropriate)

Assessing sensation, reflexes, and nerve-related function.

The assessment is designed to identify not only where symptoms are occurring, but also why they may be occurring.

Step 3: Diagnosis & Treatment Plan

Following your assessment, your provider will explain:

  • their findings
  • likely diagnosis
  • contributing factors
  • treatment recommendations
  • expected recovery timelines
  • options available

You'll have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in decisions regarding your care.

Will I Receive Treatment During My First Visit?

Yes. We ensure you get a treatment on the first visit.

Treatment recommendations are always individualized based on your needs and comfort level.

Will I Need Imaging?

Most patients do not require imaging before beginning treatment.

If imaging is clinically indicated, your provider will discuss:

  • why imaging may be helpful
  • which type of imaging is appropriate
  • how the results may influence treatment

Imaging recommendations are based on current clinical guidelines and individual patient findings. Chiropractors in Alberta can order x-rays and MSK ultrasounds through the Alberta Health Care Plan. If other imaging (MRI's, DEXA, etc) is suggested, our team will provide the appropriate referral.

What Should I Bring?

Please bring:

  • insurance information (if applicable)
  • any relevant imaging reports
  • referral information (if applicable)
  • a list of medications if relevant

How Long Is the First Appointment?

Appointment lengths vary by provider and service, but initial assessments will last up to an hour to allow time for:

  • discussion
  • examination
  • treatment planning
  • questions and answers

When booking, our team can provide specific appointment durations.

We believe patients make better decisions when they understand their condition and treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, no referral is required to book chiropractic, physiotherapy, or massage therapy services. Call our office if you have specific questions regarding referrals that your insurance plan may require.

Absolutely. Identifying the source of symptoms is one of the primary goals of the assessment process.

Most treatments are well tolerated. Your provider will discuss treatment options and work within your comfort level.

That's completely fine. The first appointment is an opportunity to understand your condition, ask questions, and discuss treatment options before making any decisions.

Your intake forms are through the booking page Jane App. You would have gotten an email when the appointment was booked to a link to the online paperwork. If you have any problems, please call our office.
